Provided is a positive electrode active material precursor for non aqueous electrolyte secondary cells, which comprises a nickel cobalt manganese carbonate composite represented by the general formula Ni x Co y Mn z M t CO 3 (in the formula, x+y+z+t = 1, 0.05 ≤ x ≤ 0.3, 0.1 ≤ y ≤ 0.4, 0.55 ≤ z ≤ 0.8, and 0 ≤ t ≤ 0.1 are satisfied, and M is at least one additive element selected from Mg, Ca, Al, Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo and W) and a functional group containing hydrogen. The substance mass ratio H/Me of the hydrogen content H to the metal component content Me is less than 1.60. The positive electrode active material precursor for non aqueous electrolyte secondary cells comprises secondary particles formed by the agglomeration of a plurality of primary particles.
