The invention provides a power system monitoring method and a system thereof. The power system monitoring method includes steps of receiving primary wiring diagrams of various regional plants and substations by a monitoring center; creating a first layer by the aid of graphics software, and creating a second layer on the first layer; drawing the primary wiring diagrams on the first layer; receiving edit instructions of users; and drawing corresponding equipment state detection points in the second layer according to the edit instruction. By the aid of the power system monitoring method and the system thereof, unified edit for the primary wiring diagrams in various formats can be realized, updating of the primary wiring diagrams at the monitoring center and edit of the equipment state detection points are independent and cannot be affected by each other.
