Hypaque pulmonary edema. A case report.

1974
Aspiration of a water-soluble contrast medium (Hypaque) caused acute pulmonary edema in a patient with Boerhaave's syndrome who died shortly thereafter. The clinical course and serial chest radiographs and autopsy findings are presented. The high osmotic activity of Hypaque is considered to be the pathophysiological mechanism responsible for the pulmonary edema.
