Study on the Change of Cytokines Level in Chicken with Selenium Deficiency

2004
To investigate the effect of cytokines on chicken with selenium deficiency, one-day chickens(n=120) were randomly divided into 2 groups (60 in each group). The chickens in experiment group were fed with selenium-deficiency feedstuff(concentration of selenium 0.014 mg/kg); ones in control were fed with the basic feedstuff(concentration of selenium 0.375 mg/kg). 1 mL blood sample from heart (10 in each group) were collected at day 10, 20, 30 and 40 after feeding and serum were separated with centrifuge. The contents of cytokines were determined by RIA. The results showed that the content of IL-1β、IL-2β and EPO in group with selenium deficiency was significantly lower than that in control(P0.01)and the content of TNF was significantly higher than that in control(P0.01). It can be concluded that the deficiency of selenium can result in decrease in immunity, anemia, exudative diathesis, haemorrhage and necrosis of the tissues and other pathological changes clinically.
