Energy-efficient schedule for object detection in Wireless Sensor Networks
2008
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have attracted a lot of research attention which consist of a large number of sensors. Sensors are capable of sensing, processing and transmitting environmental information. Data collection and object detection are two main applications in WSNs. In this paper, object detection has been studied. By detecting persistent object and ephemeral object, we investigate in detail the fundamental relationship of object detection probability and detection delay with different nodes density and sensing range. For wireless sensor networks are composed of power-restrained nodes that limit their lifetime, energy-efficiency is a key concern in WSNs. Balancing object detection quality and network lifetime is a challenging task in sensor networks. We also launched a novelty energy-aware wake up scheme, which significantly prolongs the life of WSNs and increases the detection performance of wireless sensor networks.
