Thin Film Intercalation Compounds: UHV Deposition and Changes of Electronic Structure

Our experimental approach to obtain high quality photoemission spectra of intercalation phases is presented. Specially interesting are investigations of thin films prepared in-situ inside the UHV system. The example of TiS 2 shows an electronic decoupling of the layers, due to intercalated Na, which can also be investigated in a working battery device. V 2 O 5 shows polaron formation due to lithium intercalation. Both host materials are characterised by a strong metal-anion hybridisation.
