High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry: Instrumentation in General

2021
Mass spectrometry is becoming the nucleus of many analytical instruments and study protocols nowadays and has been revolutionized by technologies with more and more mass-resolving potential. Today’s high-resolution mass spectrometry uses a variety of mass spectrometry designs. However, they are all still based on the simple, yet most important resolving power. This chapter introduces the fundamentals of highresolution mass spectrometry-including detectors, ionization techniques, and data acquisition—in an approachable and comprehensive way. It goes beyond the basics of the instrumentation and provides a detailed look at the techniques and plays behind the instrumentation.
