Developments of the Multistep Avalanche Chamber and Applications to the Detection of Far Ultraviolet Photons

Recent experimental work on the multi-step avalanche chamber is reviewed, together with the first results of application of the device in the imaging of far ultraviolet Cerenkov photons emitted by fast particles.
