A New Approach to Subsea Intervention

1988
In March 1987 representatives of Statoil and the Asea Brown Boveri Group could witness the completion of a successful sea test of a new subsea intervention system. These tests were a determined step towards a new approach in the subsea maintenance area. A flexible and versatile system has been proposed and developed. The system, which is of a modular design, consists of a carrier vehicle, tool packages, launching system and surface control and power systems. The intervention tasks cover replacement of heavy subsea components and other tasks encountered during installation and production. This paper deals with the development of this system including tool packages for a broad range of maintenance tasks.
