originAl Fatores associados à chance para a mortalidade hospitalar no Distrito Federal

2013
Objective: identify hospital mortality-associated risk factors in Brazil’s Federal District. Methods: evaluation of all admissions (except obstetric and psychiatric) recorded on Hospital Admission Authorization Forms (AIH) and consolidated in Brazil’s Unified Health System information system in 2008. Logistic models were estimated to identify characteristics of patients, admissions and hospitals, associated with hospital death. Results: the overall hospital mortality rate (HMR) was 4.2%, considering 133,098 AIH evaluated; higher HMR were found in male patients, aged 60 years or older, living in Federal District satellite cities, admitted by emergency services mainly due to chronic diseases. Risk of death increased with longer hospital and intensive care unit stay. Conclusion: study findings on hospital death risk-associated factors may improve hospital care performance monitoring in the Federal District.
