Detecção do desflorestamento da Amazônia Legal em tempo real - Projeto DETER

This paper presents a methodology for detecting deforestation activities in a near real time using Terra MODIS data. The proposed methodology, named "DETER" Project ("Deteccao em Tempo Real do Desflorestamento na Amazonia" - Real Time Deforestation Detection in Amazonia), is based on the PRODES Digital methodology that uses the Landsat TM and/or ETM+ images. Then DETER methodology consists on generating fraction images, segmentation of soil fraction images, classification using non supervised approach, mapping and editing the classified image, using MODIS daily data. The PRODES Digital and DETER projects are part of the "Estimate of deforestation in Amazonia" activities performed annually by Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE). DETER project is providing information about the deforestation occurring through the year and then PRODES Digital is mapping and estimating the annual deforestation. Therefore these informations are consistent between these two projects and useful for the Government Organizations Actions.
