The invention relates to a device for adjusting a phase position of a camshaft (12) relative to a camshaft (12) driving the crankshaft, with an electric actuator (15) for actuating an adjusting mechanism (11), wherein the camshaft (12) when out of service due to a malfunction in a base or limp-home position is movable. The base, or limp-home position is reliably achieved when the actuator (15) by a separate supply of an operating power supply (19, 22) can be supplied with energy to move the adjusting mechanism (11) in the base or emergency running. The invention further relates to a method for operating a device for adjusting a phase position of a camshaft (12).
