Clinical observation of effect of telescope denture treatment on moderate to severe periodontal diseases with dentition defect

AIM: To observe the periodontal condition of abutment teeth in patients with moderate to severe periodontal diseases after telescope denture treatment,and investigate the clinical effects of treatment.METHODS: 20 patients with moderate to severe periodontal diseases were treated and 26 telescope dentures were made.Total abutment teeth were 149,25 of them with mobility Ⅰ,113 with mobility Ⅱ,11 with mobility Ⅲ.The average observation period was three and a half years.The tooth mobility,the average depth of periodontal pocket,and periodontal condition plaque index,and gingival index were observed.RESULTS: 20 cases of periodontal disease with dentition defect received telescope denture treatment after periodontal initial and root canal therapy.The plaque index,gingival index,pocket depth,tooth mobility and radiology changes were all improved.The feelings of patients after prosthodontic treatment were studied with satisfactory results of questionnaire.CONCLUSION: The telescope denture is fairly effective in the prosthodontic treatment of periodontal diseases.
