Fasciocutaneous flaps in the leg.

1983
: The advent of the axial fasciocutaneous flap in the leg has freed surgeons from the constraints of the length to breadth ratio which was critical in the design of the conventional random pattern flaps in the leg. The fasciocutaneous flap also has significant advantages over the gastrocnemius myocutaneous flap viz: greater versatility, easier execution and a lesser donor defect. This flap, also known as the "Super" flap, has been used in 5 patients, in one as a standard fasciocutaneous flap and in the other 4 as cross leg flaps. This paper deals with the relevant vascular anatomy of the lower leg and clinical experience with the above patients.
