The invention relates to a device for examining the phase separation behavior in the centrifugal field of at least two phases, in particular which are reciprocally immiscible, in particular each present as a liquid, comprising a hollow cylindrical housing (1a. 1b, 1c) for receiving the phases, one at a first side (1a) of the housing (1a, 1b, 1c) arranged shaft (3), with which the housing (1a, 1c, 1b) about its cylinder axis (2) is driven in rotation, an agitator (4a, 6, 7) in the inside the housing (1a, 1b, 1c) that is independent of a rotation of the housing (1a, 1b, 1c) can be rotationally driven relative to the latter, and with means for recording, in particular optical detection of the distribution of the phases in the radial direction. The invention also relates to a method for examining the phase separation behavior.
