Evaluation on the Suspect Measles Surveillance System during 1997-2003 in Hangzhou

Objective To study measles epidemiological characteristics and speed up the process of measles control in Hangzhou. Methods The immunization history of measles cases by age and monitoring the situation of suspect measles surveillance system during 1997-2003 in Hangzhou was anlyzed. Results The results showed that measles cases reported by suspect measles surveillance was 41.60% more than that by national notifiable disease reporting system.Among the suspect cases,those who were 15 years old or more accounted for 50.06%, those who had no immunization history accounted for 33.77%, and those who had no specific immunization history accounted for 43.94%. Conclusion The suspect measles surveillance system is sensitive enough, but it will still be along-time and hard task to improve its quality.
