The invention discloses an electric water heater and a control method of an electric water heater. The electric water heater comprises a housing which is provided with a water inlet pipe and a water outlet pipe; an inner container which is arranged in the housing, internally limits a water storage chamber, wherein the water inlet pipe and the water outlet pipe respectively communicate with the water storage chamber; a heater which is used for heating water stored in the inner container; a safety valve which is arranged at the water inlet of the water inlet pipe; a pressure detection module which is used for detecting pressure in the inner container and pressure in an externally connected water source pipeline so as to generate pressure detection values; and a control module which is respectively connected with the heater and the pressure detection module, and is used for controlling the heater to stop heating so as to prevent the safety valve from water leakage when the pressure detection values are greater than and equal to a preset pressure threshold. According to the embodiments of the invention, the electric water heater and the control method of the electric water heater can effectively prevent the water leakage problem of the safety valve, caused by too high pressure inside the inner container.
