The protection of the right of property of nationals under the first protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights

The draft International Covenants on Human Rights as prepared by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights' and as revised by the Third Committee of the General Assembly2 do not contain a provision protecting the right to property. Nor did the European Convention on Human Rights as signed in 1950 contain such a provision.3 However, in 1952 the (first) Protocol to the European Convention was signed;4 it entered into force in 1954.
