Objective To summarize the studies on the relationship between PFO and the occurrence of neurological ADS in recent years. Literature resource and selection Research papers, reviews and written research reports in this field. Literature quotation Materials were cited mutually and independently. Literature synthesis PFO and its clinical significance in right to left shunts were briefly introduced and the experimental results supported that PFO was a risk factor for cerebral or high spinal ADS, as well as the opposite viewpoints were presented. Things must pay attention to in research of this field were also pointed out. Conclusions PFO is one of the susceptible factors to the occurrence of neurological ADS. But its exact way of action needs further research. It is important to determine whether PFO is a possible risk factor of arterial embolism for the prevention of ADS in pilots and astronauts.
