Obtainment of fibers and porous materials from TI2AlNb-based alloy

2017
Abstract A fiber from Ti 2 AlNb-based alloy was obtained by the pendent drop extraction method (PDME). The fiber’s microstructure, phase composition, compactability and sintering were investigated. The PDME method allowed obtaining a continuous rapidly-solidified fiber with microcrystalline structure which consisted of equiaxed grains with the size of less than 20 µm, and its phase composition was represented by a β-phase fixed by a rapid crystallization rate. Fibers possess good compactability at room temperature, which allows to obtain non-sintered fiber materials with a wide porosity range. Sintering at 1100 °C during an hour provides high quality of fibers sintering process without formation of defects and pores in joint area. Fiber porous titanium aluminides based on Ti 2 AlNb are promising high-temperature low-density materials.
