How to Use GTA in Discourse Analysis

In this chapter we scale up Geographical Text Analysis by using multiple search terms and our multimillion word corpora. We document how we selected search terms using collocation, detail the processes for using GTA across multiple search terms and large corpora, and discuss some of the decisions that we had to make in terms of where the boundaries surrounding discourses of poverty lie. We show how employment, money, benefits, and housing were strongly associated with poverty by both newspapers.
