Aortoesophageal Fistula Demonstrated by Spiral CT: A Case Report

1999
An aortoesophageal fistula in a patient with esophageal cancer is reported. Active contrast leakage from the aorta via the fistula tract to the esophagus was well demonstrated with a spiral CT scanner. Spiral CT allows for more rapid data acquisition and less use of contrast material while still providing images of comparatively high quality when measured against those obtained by conventional CT. To the best of our knowledge, only one such case has been reported in the literature. The present case is the first in which this type of aortoesophageal fistula tract been demonstrated by spiral CT.
