Effect of impurities in technical-grade divinylbenzene on the quality of ion exchangers

The polyalkylbenzene fraction of ethylbenzene production, from which diethylbenzene-a raw material in manufacture of ion-exchange resins-is isolated, was analyzed by chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. On the basis of the results of a similar analysis of diethylbenzene and divinylbenzene, factors were revealed which are responsible for the worse quality of the resin produced from diethylbenzene isolated from the polyalkylbenzene fraction.
