INFLUÊNCIA DO GÊNERO E FORMAÇÃO EM EDUCAÇÃO FÍSICA SOBRE PERCEPÇÕES CORPORAIS DE INDIVÍDUOS DE AMBOS OS SEXOS

2020
The objective was to compare the subjective perception of women and men, freshmen (GAV-1) and veteran (GAV-2) students of bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, about body image, body mass and body fat from photographs of female (G-MOD/Female) and male (G-MOD/Male) individuals. Fifty-seven physical education students (30 women and 27 men) and 20 volunteers that acted as photographic models (10 women, G-MOD/Female and 10 men, G-MOD/Male) participated in this study. The perception of body image indicated by G-AV1 (women and men) and G-AV2 (women and men) was similar to the values self-assessed by G-MOD/Female and G-MOD/Male. The body mass values indicated by G-AV1/Women and G-AV1/Men were higher than those measured in G-MOD/Female. The body mass values indicated by G-AV2/Women and G-AV2/Men were similar to those measured in G-MOD/Female. The body mass values measured in the G-MOD/Male were similar to those indicated by G-AV1 (women and men) and G-AV2 (women and men). The values of body fat observed by G-AV1/Women and G-AV1/Men were different from those measured in G-MOD of the opposite sex; on the other hand, there were no differences between the measured body fat values and those indicated by G-AV2. It is concluded from photo analysis, that students of bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, regardless of gender and graduation level, have a similar perception regarding body image; the assessment of body mass and body fat, however, seems to be influenced by the sex of the evaluator and the evaluated and the graduation level.
