Using vitamin B complex for non-specific low back pain

2018
Vitamins B1, B6 and B12 contribute to the analgesia and regeneration of the nerves in non-specific back pain conditions. It also allows decreasing the dose of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs/analgesics. Chronic non-specific low back pain is often of mixed nature (nociceptive and neuropathic components coexist). B vitamins reduce pain severity by decreasing the hyperexcitability of neurons, modulating sodium and potassium channels, influencing antinociceptive mediators (serotonin, gamma-aminobutyric acid, opioids), inhibiting the release of excitatory neurotransmitters (eg, glutamate) from presynapses by blocking potential-dependent Ca2+ channels. In addition, they increase the synthesis of proteins that are necessary for nerve remyelination and regeneration. As a result, we have a decrease in pain and increase in mobility and functionality of the spine. In the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market, vitamins B1, B6 and B12 are represented by Neurobion®.
