Effect of planting time on growth and flower yield of marigold (Tagetes erecta) under sub-montane low hills of Himachal Pradesh

2003
A study conducted during 1998-2000 to explore the feasibility of cultivating marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) in the low hills of Himachal Pradesh exhibited significant influence on vegetative and flower yields. Maximum flower yield (10.73 tonnes/ha.) was recorded in August-planted crop, followed by September-planted (8.48 tonnes/ha) one, whereas the minimum (2.61 tonnes/ha) in January-planted crop. Highest net return (Rs 112 1 15/ha) was obtained from August-planted crop, with benefit: cost ratio of 3.29, followed by that of September-planted crop, with benefit: cost ratio 2.60.
