Effects of silicon,manganese and Ce-riched mixed rare earth on microstructure of industrial pure aluminum

The effects of silicon,manganese and Ce-riched mixed rare earth on the granularity of primary α-Al and the morphology of Fe-riched phase in industrial pure aluminum were studied by using the metallographic micro-analytical method.Experimental results show that,adding Si,Mn and RE has different effects and different action mechanism on the microstructure of alloys.The addition of Si can refine the primary α-Al grain and increase the content of Al3Fe phase;the addition of Mn has less effect on refining the grain but reduces the content of Al3Fe phase;the addition of RE either refines the α-Al grain or greatly reduces the content of Al3Fe phase.Moreover,the action mechanism of the elements was discussed.
