EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL STUDY ON THE IMPACT OF A CYLINDRICAL TUBE AGAINST A PLATE

2010
The impact of a cylindrical tube of oxygen-free high-conductivity(OFHC) copper against a steel plate is carried out on a single gas gun.Shapes of the recovered cylindrical tubes are compared with that numerically simulated by using the Johnson-Cook(J-C) and Zerilli-Armstrong(Z-A) constitutive models, respectively. The experimental deformations of cylindrical tubes are more consistent with the computed by a J-C model than that by a Z-A model. It is indicated that the plastic strain and velocity versus time at characteristic points in the cylindrical tube computed with a J-C constitutive model are rather different from that with a Z-A model.
