Evaluate the Suitability of Locally Available Substrates for Mass Multiplication of Cellulolytic Fungi and Bacteria

Five fungi and one bacteria viz., Trichurus spiralis, Chaetomium globosum, Trichoderma viride, Humicola grisea, Aspergillus niger and Cellulomonas bibula were evaluate for mass multiplication on solid substrates i.e. sorghum grain, wheat grain, peat and FYM. The observations on Propagules count (cfu/g) were recorded initially and thereafter at monthly interval for six months. The propagules count was much higher in every substrate at the initial period. After 30 days of incubation maximum viable propagules recorded in sorghum grain followed by wheat grain, peat soil and FYM. From 60 to 90 days of incubation, similar trend was noticed, while there was slow decline in number of propagules were observed. The best substrate for all the cultures was sorghum grain as maximum number of propagules were retained after 180 days of incubation.
