Synthesis and characterization of bacterial cellulose by Acetobacter xylinum using liquid tapioca waste
2021
Abstract In this research, liquid tapioca waste was used to produce bacterial cellulose by Acetobacter xylinum. Liquid tapioca waste was heated at 70–80 °C and then mixed with sugar as a nitrogen source and urea as a nitrogen source. Furthermore, Acetobacter xylinum was added and incubated for ten days. The bacterial celluloses resulted were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). FTIR exhibited that bacterial cellulose structure was confirmed. XRD analysis showed the crystalline of the resulted bacterial cellulose. Also, SEM confirmed the 3D network structure of bacterial cellulose. The results showed that liquid tapioca waste could be used as a medium for bacterial cellulose production.
