The Facial Nerve in Congenital Ear Malformations

The facial nerve is the nerve of the second branchial arch and is intimately related to the temporal bone. Knowledge of facial nerve anatomy is critical to the success of any otologic or neurotologic surgical procedure. While this is true of normal temporal bone anatomy, it is of even greater significance for congenital ear malformations.
