Radiation induced synthesis of nanocomposite of Pt-Pd/CNTs

2008
Pt nanoparticles supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were obtained by γ -ray irradiation and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results indicated that characteristics of the Pt-Pd nanoparticles were affected by radiation dose, pH value and surfactant. The Pt-Pd nanoparticles, about 10 nm in diameter, were uniform in both shape and size and well dispersed on the carbon nanotubes. The efficiency in using the Pt and Pd could be improved by increasing the dose, adjusting pH value of the solution to the range of 7 to 8.5, or adding surfactant.
