NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I (wherein R 1 is a 1-8C alkyl, phenyl, etc.; R 2 -R 4 are each H, a 1-4C alkyl, a halogen, NO 2 , CF 3 , etc.; X is a single bond, phenylene, etc.; Z is 1H-tetrazol-5-yl or formula II-III; R 5 is H or a nontoxic biodegradable group such as a physiologically acceptable alcohol; and R 6 is a 1-6C alkyl, phenyl, etc.), or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof except when R 5 is other than H. EXAMPLE: 4[(2-Butyl-1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)methyl]-N-phenylsufonylbenzamide. USE: A remedy for hypertension, congestive heart failure, aldosteronism or other diseases or symptoms in which the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system plays are remarkable causative role. PREPARATION: Q of a compound of formula IV (wherein Q is protected COOH) is converted into COOH, and the resulting compound is optionally reacted with a compound of formula; NH 2 SO 2 R 6 or R 5 OH to obtain the compound of the formula I (wherein Z is formula II or III).
