An embodiment of the invention relates to a communication system comprising an amplitude modulation path, a frequency deviation component, a characterizing component, a peak cancellation component and a compensation unit. The amplitude modulation path is configured to provide an amplitude modulated signal. The frequency deviation component is configured to generate a frequency error signal. The characterization component is configured to generate characterization coefficients according to the amplitude modulated signal and the frequency deviation signal. The peak cancellation component is adapted to identify peaks in accordance with the amplitude-modulated signal and to generate a peak cancellation signal, to compensate for the peak distortion based on the identified peaks. The compensation unit uses the characterization coefficients, the amplitude modulated signal and the peak cancellation signal to generate a correction signal which compensates for the distortions, and peak amplitude modulation-to-frequency modulation effects.
