A novel cross-layer dynamic probabilistic broadcasting algorithm for ad hoc networks
2013
To solve the broadcast storm issue encountered by the blind flooding, a novel cross-layer dynamic probabilistic broadcasting algorithm (CDPBA) for ad hoc networks is proposed. CDPBA adopts the cross-layer design, which let routing layer share the received signal power at MAC layer while still maintaining separation between the two layers. The received signal power is applied to calculate the rebroadcast probability at the routing layer to reduce the redundant retransmission and the chance of the contention and collision in the networks. Our extensive simulation results by ns-2 have shown that CDPBA performs significantly better than blind flooding+802.11 and fixed probabilistic flooding+802.11.
