Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN): Architecture, Applications and MAC Protocols

Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) became an emerging technology and has lot of applications for health-care and others non-medical services. The main objective is to provide quick overview of WBAN architecture, applications and MAC protocols with limitations of each for research community. From the comparative analysis in tabular form and mentioned research gaps, a researcher will get quick idea and will be able to go for new solutions or improvements in old techniques. This paper also gives detailed survey of WBAN applications and categories them into sub-groups for better understanding. We also highlighted advantages and dis-advantages of the MAC protocols, so that user can choose particular MAC protocol according to the scenario and requirements in hand.
