The characteristics of multiple membrane couplings

1996
Abstract Multiple membrane couplings fall into the category of metallic membrane designs, a family that has been developed to eliminate the problems associated with lubricated couplings. All metallic membrane couplings rely on the flexure of metallic membranes to accommodate misalignments; the multiple membrane types utilise packs of thin laminations typically 0.12 to 0.5 mm thick, to minimise stress levels and misalignment reaction forces. The couplings are designed for infinite life by ensuring that the operating stresses do not exceed the endurance limit of the lamination material.
