Objective: To identify the relationship between the degree of disability and level of functional independence of adults with cerebrovascular disease from Cartagena Colombia. Methodology: A cross-sectional study with sampling intention in 48 adults with clinical diagnosis of cerebrovascular disease, the WHO DAS II instruments were applied to the degree of disability and the Barthel index to assess functional independence. Results: The mean age of participants was 64.4 ± 14.9 years, 57% were male. As for the medical diagnosis 61% had unspecified CVD, 31% had an ischemic CVD and 8% hemorrhagic CVD. Scores on total disability as a result yielded a mean of 57 ± 18 points. In relation to the degree of disability, it was found that 61.7% have a severe degree. Regarding the total score of the Barthel index has an average of 76.3 ± 28.2 points at the level of functional independence 61% has minimal dependence. Significant differences were observed in the relationship between the degree of disability and level of functional independence. Conclusions: The relationship found the degree of disability and level of functional independence can be considered by clinicians as a follow-up strategy in the rehabilitation process.
