Disempowering and Empowerment:Hong Kong's Experience in Preventing Elder Abuse & Its Enlightenment

The phenomenon of elder abuse has become an international social problem. Hong Kong government and non-governmental welfare units provide appropriate services to protect the elders and to prevent the recurrence of elder abuse. Social workers in Hong Kong apply themselves to enhance the understanding of elder abuse to facilitate the design of public education, services, and policies to prevent and reduce elder abuse. Hong Kong method and experience,especially approaches focused on the empowerment of older persons, are useful reference for the prevention and handling of elder abuse in China mainland.
