Analysis of clinicopathological features and prognostic factors of 1 081 patients with locally advanced breast cancer

2011
Objective:To analyze the clinicopathological features and survival in patients with locally advanced breast cancer(LABC),and to explore the prognostic factors of LABC.Methods:The clinicopathological features, recurrence, metastasis and survival of 1 081 patients with LABC between July 2001 and December 2004 were retrospectively analyzed.Univariate analysis for prognosis was performed by Kaplan-Meier method.COX regression model was applied for multivariate prognostic analysis. Results:The 3-and 5-year disease-free survival(DFS) rates were 69.6% and 56.9%,respectively;whereas the 3-and 5-year overall survival(OS) rates were 81.5% and 65.9%,respectively.Univariate analysis showed the factors including family history of cancer, tumor size, lymph node status, histological grade, adjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy and endocrine therapy were important prognostic factors.Multivariate COX regression analysis showed that the factors including tumor size, lymph node state, adjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy and endocrine therapy were independent prognostic factors. Conclusion:Adjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy and endocrine therapy may significantly improve the prognosis of patients with LABC.The individual therapy should be applied in these patients by optimizing the treatment according to their clinicopathological features.
