Ammonia produced by enzymatic ac tion on the waste product urea c counts for approximately 90 percent of the total soluble nitrogen concentration in raw wastewater and in effluents from secondary treatment plants without nitrification. The remaining soluble nitrogen and all of the insoluble nitrogen are combined with or ganic compounds. Most of the ammonia may be removed from the wastewater by air stripping.1 A high pH is needed for efficient stripping and is achieved by com bining the stripping process with lime clari fication.1 The addition of lime in the
