The furnace includes an inner container and an outer container with gas pervious insulation positioned between the two containers. Electric heating elements extend into the inner container for heating gas received in the inner container. The inner container has openings, including openings around the electric heaters so that the insulation between the containers is in communication with the gas in the inner container.
