Fractal and wrinkling properties of a carbon nanolayer on an elastomer surface after dynamic loading

2018
The influence of dynamic loading on a carbon nanolayer created by magnetron sputtering of a graphite target on the surface of a polyurethane elastomer is studied. Layers with thicknesses of 4 to 11 nm are obtained. As a result of plasma treatment, the relief becomes wrinkled. The structural parameters of the surfaces (fractal dimensions, amplitudes and wavelengths of wrinkles) depending on the thickness of the layer are studied. Dynamic loading with small amplitude changes the structure of the coatings as follows: the wrinkles become more tortuous, their amplitudes and wavelengths increase. At the same time, no cracking or delamination of these coatings occurs. Carbon layer damage induced by mechanical loading is observed on coatings with a thickness exceeding 20 nm.
