System Architecture and Maintenance of the Ecoradar Web Portal in Environmental Onlone Communication

The complexity of web portals requires an implementation of an integrated maintenance management. Ecoradar represents a portal in the domain of sustainability and environmental management. The components of the system architecture of this portal are described. Next to the general components of a portal, we will have a closer look at the domain-specific application framework: EcOObjects, as a software class framework for developing environmental management software, EcoAvatar, as an instrument for a multimedia environmental communication and EcoWizards, as a computer aided and interactive completion of checklists of the environmental man-agement. Next a description of the portal’s maintenance tasks fol-lows. This article provides conceptual background information for persons responsible for the web portal’s management, especially for portals in the domain of environmental management. It can also be used as a blueprint for a portal’s planing and implementation.
