In Indonesia there are still many areas that have not been electrified such as in the border region, outermost island and under developed areas (3T). In several 3T areas that have been electrified, Diesel Power Plants (PLTDs) are mostly used. The high usage of PLTD causes Cost of Energy (COE) generated increases due to expensive fuel costs. COE generated is the cost of electricity production by PT PLN (Persero), which does not include the cost of electricity distribution. The researcher utilized local renewable energy as a way to produce electricity and to decrease COE generated in 3T areas. The research was conducted by taking samples in the Selayar Islands area, South Sulawesi which has the COE generated 0.172 US$/kWh. Using five power plant system configurations, if reviewed from COE generated its opposition gained that the most efficient system configuration and can decrease COE generated Selayar Islands is configuration of system PLTS-PLTA pump with COE generated of 0.082 US$/kWh. From these results, the use of local renewable energy sources can be used as an alternative that can be applied in the 3T areas. The use of local renewable energy sources can reduce fuel consumption that can degrade COE generation
