Seasonal water quality assessment in Valankulam Lake, Coimbatore
2020
Abstract Water is one of Earth's most valuable natural resources. Water supply and quality have played an essential role in deciding not just where people would live, but also their standard of living. This experimental work was conducted to determine the water quality of the surface water source in Lake Valankulam in Ukkadam, part of the Coimbatore Anicut channel system. The Noyyal River canals feed the lake. The storage capacity was found to be 70 cft, with a spacing area of 320 acres. Water samples were obtained from the lake for research in December, January, and February 2019–20. Laboratory tests determine parameters such as pH, turbidity, hardness, alkalinity and chloride content. The objectives of this analysis are to determine the consistency of surface water and to show the practical intent of the test results. This surface water supply is considered not to be recommended for drinking and irrigation purposes without adequate care.
