Preliminary evidence-based medical study on TCM therapeutic principle "expelling heat with cold herbs based"on chronic hepatitis B cases

Objective:To explore the scientific proof of TCM therapeutic principle of expelling heat with cold herbs adopting evidenve-based medical method.Methods:Based on the retrospective study on 337 Chronic Hepatitis B(CHB)cases of hospitalized patients during Oct 2002 to Oct.2008,the classification model of TCM symptom was built and tested by exploratory factor analysis(EFA)and confirmatory factor analysis(CFA).The TCM symptom and syndrome classification feature and clinical medication principles of CHB were discovered and interpreted.Results:The study showed that the main TCM syndrome of CHB patients was heat syndrome(48.37%)and the cold property of prescriptions was predominated(75.37%).Expelling heat syndrome with cold prescription acquired good curative effects.TCM symptom of dry and bitter taste of mouth,dry tool,xanthochromia,etc.were improved notably.Conclusion:Expelling heat with cold herbs was scientific demonstrated by the study from one side.
