The Role of Orthobiologics for the Management of Ligament and Muscle Injuries in Sports

2020
The use of orthobiologics has evolved tremendously in the past decade for the management of soft tissue injuries in athletes. While several promising reported outcomes have brought a surge in orthobiologic use in sports medicine with a great variety of orthobiologic treatment options developed in recent years, current evidence is limited, variable, and even conflicting at times. Therefore, establishing an optimal treatment protocol for the various soft tissue sports injuries presents a challenge to the sports clinician. As the previous chapter (part 1) focused on the role of orthobiologic use in the management of common tendon injuries in basketball, this chapter will review the best current evidence and recommendations for the management of common ligament and muscle injuries in basketball.
