Multimodal vibration control of a flexible structure using piezoceramics

2005
This paper presents results of multimodal vibration suppression of a smart flexible cantilever beam by using single piezoceramic actuator and a single sensor. Piezoceramics PZT (lead zirconate titanate) patches are surface-bonded on the beam and perform as actuator and sensor. System identification for the dynamics of the first three modes and model reduction techniques are employed to assist in control system design. The state space model from system identification is used for state estimation and development of control algorithm. A linear pole placement controller is designed and simulated using the identified model. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of multimodal active vibration control of the structure using smart materials
