Modos de habitar en contexto de montaña: la región oriental del Atlas en Marruecos

This research project focuses on traditional architecture and landscape in the mountain context, considering the eastern region of the Atlas in Morocco. The study area integrates territories with diverse characteristics, from the pre-Saharan valleys and the impressive oasis of Tafilalt, to the fortified settlements of the Eastern High Atlas and the villages of the Middle Atlas. This paper is organized in two different parts. In the first one, various typologies of the domestic architecture will be described through specific case studies located in different landscape units. In the second part, a typological framework will be proposed for the study area, seeking to interpret the diversity of traditional architecture considering the characteristics of the territory as well as cultural and historical aspects relevant to the occupation patterns of the territory.
